Idea and Background
The war in Ukraine has resulted in a large number of traumatized people. Those affected suffer considerably, often for the rest of their lives. For society, dealing with and caring for traumatized people is a considerable burden. The rapid and effective treatment of trauma patients is therefore a very important task.
The EMDR method („Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing“) is a very effective tool for this. In many cases, symptoms can be significantly improved within just a few treatment sessions. The trauma outpatient clinic at Würzburg University Hospital has been using this method successfully for years. Experience shows that treatment times can be reduced by up to 60% compared to conventional procedures.
The background and details of the use of EDMR at the trauma outpatient clinic in Würzburg were documented in a television report.
There are currently not enough experts available who are proficient in the EMDR method. Together with the University Hospital Würzburg, the DAHW and the ITP Würzburg (Institute for Trauma and Psychotherapy), the Lions Club Würzburg-Löwenbrücke is organizing training courses on this topic. The training courses serve as multiplier training and are intended to enable Ukrainian experts to apply the EMDR method and other trauma treatment techniques in Ukraine and, in particular, to pass them on.
The project was presented to a Ukrainian delegation at a meeting at the University Hospital of Würzburg in early 2024. A summary of the meeting is available as a television report.
The Training
The first training phase will take place in Würzburg, Germany. This is followed by supervision of the work via video meetings. The focus is on enabling participants to treat their own patients with the EMDR method as quickly as possible.
Attending the training
Only psychotherapists or experts with comparable experience and education can take part. It is possible that the costs of attending the training course will be covered. Es ist geplant, das Training wird in Deutsch und Ukrainisch durchgeführt. Sie sollten eine der beiden Sprachen auf Native-Niveau beherrschen.
